Chartered ACE
English Test (CAET)
Your pathway to global English proficiency. A modern, CEFR-aligned assessment designed to evaluate practical English communication for academic, professional and everyday success.
Your Pathway to Global English Proficiency
At Chartered ACE, we believe English proficiency should open doors, not create barriers. That is why we have developed the Chartered ACE English Test (CAET), a modern assessment designed to measure language ability through the internationally recognised Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Unlike traditional examinations that focus primarily on memorisation, CAET evaluates listening, reading, writing and speaking, ensuring that learners can confidently apply English in academic, professional and social settings.
Whether you are a student preparing for higher education, a professional seeking career advancement, or an institution looking for a reliable benchmark of English readiness, CAET provides a flexible, fair and academically rigorous testing solution.
Why Choose CAET?
A practical and accessible English assessment designed to support learning, professional development and institutional needs.
CEFR-Aligned
Transparent proficiency reporting mapped to the six CEFR levels, from A1 (Beginner) to C2 (Proficient).
Practical & Relevant

Global Benchmark
Designed around an internationally recognised proficiency framework relevant to academic and workplace settings.
Accessible Anywhere
Secure digital assessment and flexible scheduling arrangements for candidates across different locations.
Components of the CAET Assessment
CAET comprehensively evaluates four core language competencies, ensuring a balanced and holistic measurement of English proficiency.
Listening
Assesses comprehension of spoken English across academic, professional and everyday contexts.
Reading
Evaluates the ability to understand and analyse texts ranging from factual information to complex arguments.
Writing
Measures clarity, accuracy and organisation in producing written English for different purposes.
Speaking
Examines fluency, pronunciation and coherence in interactive communication.
CEFR Proficiency Levels
CAET results are mapped to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), providing a widely recognised framework for describing English language proficiency.
A1 — Beginner
Can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases.
A2 — Elementary
Can communicate in simple and routine tasks involving familiar information.
B1 — Intermediate
Can handle most situations likely to arise while travelling or working.
B2 — Upper Intermediate
Can interact with fluency and spontaneity in academic and professional contexts.
C1 — Advanced
Can express ideas fluently and spontaneously with minimal difficulty.
C2 — Proficient
Can understand virtually everything heard or read and express themselves with precision.
Note: CEFR alignment describes the language proficiency framework used by CAET. Acceptance of CAET results is subject to the requirements of individual institutions, employers and relevant authorities.
